The diploma in Civil Engineering is a study that deals with large physical structures such as buildings, bridges, power plants, airports and roads. Students learn how to perform engineering duties such as planning, designing and maintaining these structures.

Curriculum

The diploma in Civil Engineering exposes students to the basic subjects such as:

Mathematics | Engineering Principles | Drafting (both manual and computer –aided) | Surveying | Costing | Construction Technology | laboratory testing | basic structural design | Concrete Technology | Technical Writing and Communications

The objective of this diploma is help students develop the technical competencies and the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the industry.

Duration and Fees

In Malaysia, the Civil Engineering Diploma usually takes 2.5 years to complete. The fees range from RM25,000 – RM40,000.

Career

The diploma programs are design to impart both theoretical knowledge and applied skills to the students. Graduates can seek employment as engineering assistants, technologists, inspectors, technicians and surveyor. Career advancement is limited if you do not have a degree. Hence, it is advisable to continue studies after obtaining a diploma.

Further Studies

Upon completion of the diploma, students can continue studies by enrolling in a Bachelor degree where specialization is possible. Students can specialize in the following areas such as environment, geo-technical, hydraulics, water resources, structural and transportation.

Entry Requirements

SPM – 3 Cs (including Mathematics and one science subject) and pass English
UEC – 3 Bs in UEC including English and Advance Mathematics
GCE ‘O’ level – 3 credits (including Mathematics and one science subject)

As a civil engineer, you need to have an aptitude for science and mathematics, detailed oriented, ability to visualize in 3D, good in problem solving, creative and innovative.
