Andhra Pradesh is an Indian state located on the South East coast of India; it is bordered on the south by Tamil Nadu, on the west by Karnataka, on the northwest by the new state of Telangana, on the north by Chhattisgarh and Orissa and on the east by the Bay of Bengal. Its area is 160,205 km² and is composed of 23 districts . The state has the second longest coastline (972 km) among all the states in India. Two major Indian rivers cross Andhra Pradesh: Krishna and Godavari. The capital of Andhra Pradesh is the city of Hyderabad.
The plains are very fertile because well irrigated by the large rivers that cross the state. Andhra Pradesh is the country’s largest rice producer. It also produces tobacco and many fruits.
It has famous sacred sites, such as Srisailam, Tirupati and Puttaparthi. Located in Tirupati, the richest temple in the world, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, is visited by hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year. It also has several museums, including the Salar Jung Museum, that own a rich collection of sculptures, paintings and religious objects, and the Archaeological Museum, that own Buddhist and Hindu sculptures and other Antiquities; These two museums are located in Hyderabad. Andhra Pradesh has many institutions of higher education, including the agricultural University of Andhra Pradesh and the University of Andhra.
